The Wood Stove Change-Out Programs provide area residents with incentives to replace their old, dirty-burning wood stoves that emit excessive smoke with today’s cleaner-burning, more efficient hearth heating appliances. The wood stove change-out concept was created by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association, and has been successfully employed in many other areas of the country.
The purpose of the Wood Utilization Initiative is to stimulate the growth of the wood industry in Nevada, focusing initially on Southern Nevada. The initiative provides assistance to small businesses in utilizing woody biomass that is generated from forest and range land health treatments and from wood waste generated in urban settings. By expanding the existing regional utilization capacity and encouraging new businesses to take advantage of the woody biomass present in Nevada, a sustainable industry will evolve offering increased employment and environmental improvements to Nevada’s landscape.
